Mrs. Pritchard's Kindergarten Class

It is hard to believe that kindergarten is almost over!  It is amazing how far your children have come this year!  I am very proud of their progress.  Now that we have covered all letters and sounds, it is time for us to apply what we have learned -- especially in reading and writing.
In reading, when your child encounters an unknown word,  remind him/her to apply the strategies we have learned in class -- look at the picture for a clue, get your mouth ready for the beginning sound, read on and come back to the word, put in a word that would make sense, look for the little parts that he already knows, and then ask someone for help.
In writing, when your child wants to write a word, but cannot spell it, do not tell him/her the correct spelling.  Instead, help your child sound out the word -- writing each sound as he/she hears it.  This will help your child increase his/her writing skills as well as reading skills.
Remember -- practice does not make perfect; practice makes permanent!  So, please provide your child with adequate supervision when he/she completes homework.  Keep up the good work!
